What is the difference between the practice OB/GYN and the midwifes?
How Midwives & OBGYNS differ in our Practice
A Certified Nurse Midwife is a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in normal, low-risk pregnancy and delivery. They typically hold a nursing degree and a master’s degree in midwifery, allowing them to provide a broad range of healthcare services.
An OB/GYN (obstetrician) is a physician who specializes in pregnancy and childbirth. They completed a bachelor’s degree, followed by medical school, and then a residency in obstetrics and gynecology. This extensive training equips them to handle both low and high-risk pregnancies and perform surgeries (including cesarean sections, circumcision and other gynecological surgeries) and manage complications (vacuum assist, third- and fourth-degree perineal tears, retained placenta, etc.) during childbirth.
